Air Cadets on Annual Camp line up in front of the RAF St Mawgan Shackleton

Summer camp - RAF St Mawgan

Recently four Cadets from 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) along with cadets from other ATC squadrons set off on the long journey to experience what life is like on an RAF Station, the cadets were Cornwall bound, with their home for the week being RAF St Mawgan, near Newquay.2438 Sqn Cadets

The Cadets were taken to Lands End, the furthest point south west in England, after which they spent the evening playing sports on the beach at Porth. They went Air Experience Flying (AEF) in the Grob Tutor 2 seater aircraft with a detachment from 3 AEF, who are based at RAF St Mawgan for the duration of the camp. Many of the cadets completed their weapons handling tests, they went to Flambards Theme Park, laser quest, bowling and they experienced a session with an RAF PTI in the station gymnasium where they completed the RAF fitness test.

Air Cadets Live on Air with BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio

Flt Lt Paul Hincks, Cdt FS Alice Hartopp and Cdt Cpl Tom Green from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron joined the BBC’s Mark Powlett for his afternoon show

On Thursday 12 August, three members of the Air Training Corps took part in a live interview during the Mark Powlett show on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio.

Promoting Success

On Monday 2nd August, Flt Lt Nathan Adams, Commanding Officer of 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron ATC had the delight in promoting a hard working cadet to the rank of Corporal.

Corporal Andrew Reed was given his stripes at final parade in front of the other cadets on parade that evening.

Cadets in the City

CDT Reed City Centre 24.7.2010Cadets and staff from 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron have recently manned a recruitment stand in Coventry City Centre's Lower Precinct shopping centre.

The cadets were promoting the Squadron's upcoming recruitment intake. They were handing out leaflets specially designed to promote the activities of 2438 Squadron.

The event was also promoted on the local Mercia FM and Touch FM radio stations. These broadcasts were also backed up by two local press releases in Coventry and Warwickshire, and mentions on Mercia FM and Touch Radio in the week prior to the event and coverage on many local websites.

A taste of the Caribbean

On July 31 staff and cadets from 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron Air Training Corps joined thousands of people to help celebrate Coventry’s West Indian community and culture at the city’s Caribbean Festival.

The event, which has become a major feature of the city’s summer calendar, was celebrating its 20th birthday.

When two of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron’s Naval Field Gun Teams provided a demonstration of teamwork and discipline in the main arena during the recent open day at Gamecock Barracks, one of the gun crews was one man short. So determined not to let the side down and disappoint the large crowd which was waiting to see the display, one of the adult squadron staff proved that they were more than capable of Running the Gun.

The Aircadets.co.uk web site is an unofficial web site for Air Cadets and staff. Although content is aimed at the Air Training Corps the site is open to all. The site is based in the UK but membership and participation are not limited.

ALL aspects of this site are free. Access to some areas of the site require online registration and this requires a valid email address.

Air Cadets is a youth organisation for people aged 13 and over. It is the best organisation for aviation and adventure minded youth of today, with members throughout the UK.
